How is it played? (Rules)

The opponents fight with each other in pants with a belt, having nothing on their upper body .The aim of the contestant is to force the opponent into a position in which he reaches the ground with his elbow, knee, back or bottom. The fight lasts until the winning position. The winner has to stand on the soles of his feet. In case that both contestants get into a losing position (even if it does not happen in the same moment) the fight is undecided, so they continue in the starting position saluting each other. The one who reached the ground first can not start a pull from the ground.

Sport or Game History and origins:

The origins go back to ancient times. The only thing that is older than wrestling as a form of fight is life itself. There is no nation on Earth that does not have some kind of wrestling culture. From the Sahara to Iceland people are looking for the beauty and educational power of struggle. For the ancestors of mankind the strength of their arms and legs were the key for survival. As other old nations and cultures, Hungary also have a strong body-culture and wrestling is so much part of it. Wrestling was part of the everyday life as training, amusement or ritual events. It is sad that in the times of the nomad tribal alliances on ritual nights next to a huge fire after the feat and dancing the greatest warriors were wrestling with each other in front of their chief to show that they are the strongest. It is all about derring-do.
