Chicken and Eagle

How is it played? (Rules)

This game was played mainly by girls. The most quick and flexible was the aitents (eagle) and the less quick was the kosou (chicken). The rest of the girls was behind the kosou, and they were holding the each other dresses, pretending her baby chickens. The aitents was trying to catch one of the baby chickens. But kossou was spreading her hands to protect them. The baby chickens was following the kossou, without leaving the front girl’s dress. When the aitents was catching one of the baby chickens, the baby chicken was pulled back in the corner. Aitents was going back to catch the rest of them.

Sport or Game History and origins:

This game was played in many cities and villages in Pontos, where Greek Pontian were leaving (till 1920), and it also was played in Greece after.

Objective

Kosou and aitents is a game, which was played by Greek people of Pontus in Pontos (Turkey) and in Greece, when they came after the Genocide.

Benefits

Physical: Physical condition improvement (strength, speed, endurance, etc).
Psychological: Psychological skills improvement (motivation, leadership, group cohesion, concentration, etc.)

It was played by children, without the need of any material

Is it related to an specific event or festivity ( festivals, religious or pagan celebrations)?

It was played at any time of the year.
In summer it was played outdoors and in winter it was played in stables (which were big enough).
